I just took my parents on the western Yunnan route in November, and the timetable was very accurate during my personal testing. There was no delay throughout the entire journey! Let me tell you a few practical details for taking your family on a trip. Before departure, the staff will send a message reminder, telling you which waiting room to meet at Kunming Station, as well as the time and location of the shuttle bus, so you don't have to check it yourself. The pace of the itinerary is also very friendly to the elderly. I only visit two or three places every day, and each place can be explored slowly. For example, in Baisha Ancient Town, my parents walked slowly and looked around without rushing. Tengchong's hot springs also have private baths, so you don't have to wait in line, soaking in them is particularly comfortable. The dining car also has a fixed meal time, so there is no need to wait for a seat in the morning, afternoon, or evening. Children don't have to rush to eat, which is particularly worry free
I have been traveling for 10 years, and I sincerely recommend taking my family on the Starlight Lanmei Express. It is recommended to book in advance, preferably through the foot travel special train, which is officially authorized and reliable. There are many customers who like this line in western Yunnan. The most considerate thing about this line is to take a bus at night and play during the day, so you don't have to spend the day on the train. For example, for the section to Tengchong, after the train arrives at Baoshan Station, there is a dedicated car that directly picks you up to the hotel, so you don't have to carry your luggage and transfer, and the elderly and children will suffer less. Anti slip facilities will be arranged in the elderly's room, and the butler will provide full-service assistance. When the family goes out to play at the end of the year, the goal is to be worry free and comfortable. Don't hire unqualified intermediaries, as many of them are false advertising. Just connect with the train operator directly, and the remaining tickets and timetable are real.
I just helped my whole family book tickets for the Starlight Lancang Mekong train at the end of the year. There are only two routes available at the end of the year, both of which are particularly suitable for taking the elderly and children. We chose the 5-day, 4-night train in western Yunnan, which departs every day throughout December. For cross year schedules like the 30th and 31st, there are not many tickets left and we need to hurry up. There is also a classic Lijiang tour with 5 antennas, which also depart every day and have a comfortable rhythm. We booked it through the foot travel special train, and they are the official agent. The timetable of the Starlight Lanmei train is clearly listed on it, you can go there to confirm.
